Does ArtResin Turn Yellow?

Epoxy resin can yellow over time due to four main causes: UV radiation, aging, heat, and the wrong pigment.

Prerequisites for purchasing quality epoxy resin

With epoxy resins, there are generally two main ingredients that cause yellowing:

1. Resin component: The resin component of epoxy resin is usually composed of epoxy resin monomers such as bisphenol A (BPA) or epichlorohydrin bisphenol A (EPCB).  Over time, these resin monomers may oxidize and turn yellow due to UV exposure or chemical reactions.

2. Curing agent component: The curing agent component of epoxy resin usually contains amines or amine compounds.  These amine compounds can also cause yellowing, especially when they react with UV radiation or chemical compounds in the environment.

It's worth noting that the exact composition of epoxy resins can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and various additives and modifications can be used to minimize yellowing.  For example, some manufacturers use UV stabilizers or antioxidants to minimize the effects of yellowing.
So, what do you need to look for when purchasing epoxy resin to prevent or minimize the yellowing effect to some extent:

1) UV absorber

2)Hindered amine light stabilizer additive

Why does epoxy resin sometimes turn yellow?

Aging of resin. Generally speaking, epoxies have a shelf life of 12-24 months and should not yellow during storage - but if they do, it should be minimal.

Even if epoxy is not directly exposed to UV radiation during storage, it may yellow over time.  This can be caused by oxidation and chemical reactions, causing the resin to lose clarity and color stability.

Use high-quality epoxy resin: Choose high-quality epoxy resin from a trusted manufacturer.  High-quality resins often contain stabilizers and additives to minimize aging and yellowing.
Store epoxy resin properly: Epoxy resin should be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably at room temperature.  Avoid extreme heat or cold as they will accelerate the aging of the resin.  In particular, long-distance transport is also very detrimental for epoxy resins, since, for example, the resin is stored at the manufacturer during the summer and then transported by sea in sub-zero high seas, only to return to warm storage rooms.
Avoid chemicals: Certain chemicals, such as cleaners, solvents, or acids, can attack epoxy resin and cause yellowing.  Avoid contact with such substances to prevent yellowing.

So make sure you store your resin properly and maybe it makes more sense to go to the nearest retail store and buy it.
