How Do You Fill Out A Pet Tag?

We love our fur babies and want to make sure that we as pet parents do everything we can to keep them happy, healthy, and most importantly – safe.

Even with all the new technology to help us find our lost pets, like microchips and the great new app Finding Rover, we shouldn't forget about the old-fashioned methods, like your pet's identification tag.

One of the first things you buy for your four-legged friend is probably a collar with a pink bone-shaped ID tag that says "Penny."

How cute is that?

Unfortunately, this seemingly obvious identifier may be a mistake. When you write a name on the tag, everyone your dog comes in contact with will know it. This can be helpful to people with good intentions, however, someone with less noble intentions may use this information to lure your puppy away.

So what should you put on your pet’s ID tag?

For advice, I contacted certified dog trainer Mychelle Blake. Here are some security options you can add to your pet ID tag:

Mobile phone numbers for you and any other family members
Your Address – Often when a dog gets out of control, she may still be hanging around
"I'm microchipped!" (if applicable)
"Help, I'm lost and my family is probably worried! Please call them." A personal touch is always nice
Hopefully your pet will never get lost, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared just in case!
