Are 70% of The World's Toys Made in China?

China is the world's largest toy producer and exporter, and more than 70% of toys on the global market are produced in China.  It can be said that the toy industry is an evergreen tree in my country's foreign trade. From 2016 to 2021, my country's toy exports have achieved five consecutive years of growth. In the first eight months of this year, my country's total toy exports were US$31.68 billion, an increase of 20.2%.                

Chenghai District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province is known as the toy capital of China. The toys produced here have been sold to more than 150 countries and regions around the world.

November to December is the prime time for global toy sales, and for Chinese toy manufacturers, it is also the peak season for shipments.    

Yantian Port in Shenzhen, China is an important hub port for China's toy exports and the largest single container port in the world. Toys produced in China are shipped to major global trade channels such as Europe and the United States through 89 foreign trade routes.  At the berth of the terminal, neat and colorful containers are placed on one side. In addition, the loading work is also in full swing, operating 24 hours a day.  

Sea transportation has always been the most important mode of transportation for toy foreign trade companies in the Pearl River Delta region due to its advantages of large transport capacity and suitability for long-distance transportation.  According to data provided by Shenzhen Customs, Shenzhen Port’s international liner routes reach more than 100 countries and regions and more than 300 ports around the world.  In response to the peak export season, the customs is speeding up the efficiency of cargo clearance and inspection.  

Gu Kaiming, head of the Electrical Products and Consumer Goods Business Section of Shenzhen Customs Commodity Inspection, said, "Now is the peak season for exporting toys. We vigorously promote a single window for international trade to achieve quick declaration and quick customs clearance."

After loading, the ship loaded with toys made in China was launched and set sail.  Statistics from the General Administration of Customs show that from January to August this year, my country’s cumulative toy export volume was US$31.677 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%.  From the perspective of export regions, the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom are still the main exporters of Chinese toys.  

From January to August 2022, wholesale exports of children's piano toys to the United States increased by 27.2% year-on-year, exports to Mexico increased by 40% year-on-year, exports to Japan increased by 32.3% year-on-year, and exports to Malaysia and Vietnam both increased by more than 58%.  China's toy industry has developed through industrial clusters, forming a highly concentrated industrial chain and cost-effective advantages.
