How Do You Store Artificial Garland?

After Christmas, the presents have been opened, the cookies have been eaten, and the eggnog has long been consumed. Those trinkets that delighted you last fall now only remind you how much of a chore it was to put them all away. But you still have to take a moment and use this opportunity to get rid of things you don't like or have no use for this season. Why store it for another year? Donate it - someone might be excited about your find.
1. Choose your storage carefully
Having a dedicated area for holiday decorations is the first step to making the process less stressful. Depending on the size of your space, your location's climate, and the number of items, a garage, basement, shed, or attic are ideal places to store all your items. That way, items you only need to access one month out of the year won't be in your way the rest of the time. The main idea here is to hang up things you normally stuff in boxes. Hanging keeps fake garlands fluffier and Christmas tree skirts from wrinkling.
2. Take care of your artificial tree
If you put up an artificial tree every year, it's likely the largest item you need to store. Purchase a zippered cover. Once you've removed all the decorations, fold up the branches and place the tree in a bag. Then place it upright in storage to preserve its condition. While you can also place it horizontally, it will get crushed over time. Also, avoid using the original box, which can deteriorate, especially in a humid environment.
To do it yourself, place an oversized trash bag over the tree and tie it at the bottom, or use a roll of plastic shrink wrap and carefully cut it open the following year.
3. Organize Ornaments Safely
Ornaments are among the most fragile and sentimental of decorations, so it’s important to treat them as such. The original boxes they come in will protect them, but they’re not great at saving space. Consider using an ornament box with dividers or making your own using a cardboard box.
4. Organize Garland
Tuck your garland securely into a canvas bag or plastic box with a latch. This is an especially good idea if your garland has fragile ornaments. For multiple garlands, install sturdy hooks to create a wall display, or use large S-hooks to hang them on a rod in your closet. Similar to artificial trees, artificial garlands can be placed in trash bags or plastic wrap for further protection before hanging them on a storage rack.
Regardless of its material, garlands can easily become tangled if not stored properly. An easy solution is to place the garlands in a garland storage box or garland storage box, which often come with a hook. This is a good idea for bulky garlands. You can also wrap the garland around itself, secure it together with a piece of hook-and-loop tape, and store it in a tote. Thinner garland wire, such as garland wire made from beads or fabric, is easier to handle. Fold the fabric over, wrap the beads around it, and seal the garland in a large, clear plastic bag before placing it in the trash. If you have a convenient place to hang the garland, you can hang the artificial garland on a wooden pants hanger.
