How To Make Resin Christmas Decorations?

Decorating for the holidays is so much fun. When Christmas is just around the corner, people start to get ready to decorate their homes. Because decorations are so cookie-cutter, many people start to lose interest in purchased Christmas decorations. In recent years, DIY Christmas decorations have reached a peak, and instead of always buying holiday decorations, people can make them themselves, which is so much fun! This simple tutorial will show you how to make your own personalized DIY resin decorations.

The easiest is to use resin, and you can do a lot of projects with it, but one of my favorite things to do is to make resin decorations. They are fun to make, easy to personalize, make great gifts, and look beautiful hanging on your tree!

What is resin crafts?

Resin crafts are made with epoxy resin. It is a clear thick liquid that dries to a hard rock when it is mixed with a polyamine hardener. It can be a little messy, but it is so much fun to make custom crafts with it. There are dozens of creative ideas for resin crafts, but they are usually for adults.
This resin decoration project is perfect for older children and teenagers. Little ones can help out, but they will need a lot of supervision!

Epoxy Resin

It is relatively easy to buy epoxy resin and hardener (they usually come together in a kit), however, they can be quite expensive at craft stores (and are rarely discounted).

Tips for Using Epoxy Resin

Here are some tips to help you make your resin ornaments!
Make sure to measure the resin and hardener carefully. The ratio must be exactly 1:1.
Thoroughly mix the two parts together. Mix slowly for at least 5-10 minutes. If they are not thoroughly mixed, then your resin ornament will not set and will remain sticky!
When mixing, make sure to be careful not to get too much air into the mixture. You want to keep air bubbles to a minimum.
Once you have poured the resin into the mold, if there are still bubbles on the surface of the resin, you can use a lighter to gently pop the bubbles.
Silicone Mold
To make this festive resin ornament, you can use a regular round silicone mold, or if you want something a little different, then you can use a festive shaped mold!

Ideally, you want to choose a mold that has a shiny interior. This way, when you remove the ornament from the mold, it will be shiny and glistening.

This process is a little messy, but the steps are simple, just be careful to measure the resin and mix it thoroughly!
