Is It Tacky To Put Fake Plants Outside?

With people decorating their yards and patios in droves, it’s no wonder we’re seeing a ton of questions about fake outdoor plants. After all, we wouldn’t put artificial greenery inside our houses, right?

Artificial plants can withstand the elements and thrive in the comfort of our homes. Using UV-resistant materials, the fake plants can withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight and varying temperatures with little to no wear and tear.

But there are differences between our two imitations (plastic and silk). Therefore, you should exercise caution before taking them outdoors.

Can you leave plastic plants outside?

Yes, you can put plastic plants outside. But you should always consider environmental conditions. Plastic leatherette has evolved over the years to become more durable and weatherproof. This is perfect for landscaping in areas where the weather is unpredictable. Plastic fake plants for outdoor use should contain UV-resistant materials. This, in turn, ensures that fading and deterioration are minimized.

Can silk plants be placed outside?

While silk plants can brighten any indoor space, their favorite place isn't the outdoors. Even though silk plants are made of synthetic materials and are inherently durable, you shouldn't force them to stay outside. Especially if you live in a rainy area, moisture can damage your silk plant's appearance and shorten its lifespan. This is one of the reasons why we do not recommend cleaning silk leaves with water. However, if your fake plant is located on your covered porch outside your front door, you shouldn't have any problems.

Can fake plants be kept outdoors?

The longevity of fake plants depends on their quality and the outdoor conditions to which they are exposed. So, unlike the other questions so far, this question has no direct answer. High-quality outdoor artificial plants made from UV-resistant materials undergo a rigorous production process. This enhances their ability to withstand the elements better than cheaper, lower-quality products. Therefore, they will last a long time and maintain their vibrant appearance. Proper care and maintenance also affects the longevity of your fake plants outdoors. Although you don't have to pay as much attention to them as you would with real plants, you should clean your fake plants regularly to remove dust and debris.

To delay fading, spray your fake greenery with UV spray at least every few months. If you want to do more, place the new trim in a shaded area and reduce direct sunlight.
